In 2020, lockdown hit, forcing us into our homes and taking away the usual travel opportunities.  It’s been a heartbreaking time for many reasons, but if there’s one beacon of light to shine through the mire, for me, it was having a little more time than usual to write.  I’ve been delving back into my creative roots, working on a series of short stories inspired by the Orkney landscapes where I grew up.

This one’s called The Simmer Dim.  It’s essentially the story of two brothers, who find themselves separated by land and circumstances as the years wind on, but who are forever connected by a magical story from their childhoods.  I hope it goes someway towards painting a picture of the beautiful skies that can emerge during the Summer Solstice, and the mystique left behind by the linger twilight that seems to last an eternity.

Here’s an audiobook we put together in June 2020, performed by the very talented Fraser Sivewright.  It’ll only take about 20 minutes of your day, so feel free to settle in with a cuppa, and share away if you like what you hear!
